Mystery Solved!

Image
Thanks to My Vintage Vogue, the mystery has been solved. My doppelganger's name is Charlotte Payne. Here are a couple of blog posts I found about her.   Live from LRMA Fashion Plate - LikeTheDew.com I'm very happy that I found out who she is. I'm also very happy to share her face.

She Worked Hard for Her Money

My Vintage Vogue was kind and gave me a little bit more information on my doppleganger. She said that my look-a-like modeled mostly juniors fashion and appeared in a lot of Seventeen magazines as well as a few ads in Vogue and Bazaar. I have two Seventeen magazines and one Vogue. So as soon as I got home, I checked to see if I could find her. Sure enough, there she was! I found her in my September 1952 Seventeen magazine in a couple ads. And, then she was in one ad in the December 1954 Vogue edition. Please excuse the photos. I didn't scan them this time. I took a picture with my phone. I found a way to contact Harper's Bazaar and hope they get back to me with her name. Then I can start researching her life. Stay tuned to see what I find.  (I am now curious about this perfume. Does anyone know what it smelled like?)

Harper's Bazaar 1949

I follow  My Vintage Vouge  on several platforms. As I was scrolling through Facebook, I stopped in my tracks. MVV posted a picture of my doppleganger! I never expected to see her in a high fashion magazine. I feel like I am getting really close to finding out who she is. I cannot find contact information for Harper's Bazaar, nor a page for Lillian Bassman. So, I'm hoping the model information is listed in the magazine. Again, if anyone knows how who to get in contact with to find out this information, please let me know. Harper's Bazaar December 1949, photo by Lillian Bassman After finding the above image, I was on a quest to find out if she was in any more magazines. I found an ad from the September 1949 Vogue magazine.  This ad is also from My Vintage Vogue and is dated 1950.

Pretty as a Model

This all started while I was sharing my extensive catalog collection. A friend showed me a picture of one of the models, and said, "She looks just like you!" I had browsed this particular catalog numerous times, but was too enamored with the clothes to pay attention to any of the model's faces. As I collected more catalogs, I started looking for her (my) face. She was quite a busy bee in the early 1950s! Everyone has urged me to find out who she was. Being very interested in history, I've been quite intrigued to find out myself. I do not know her name. All I know is about some of her modeling career. I created this blog to reach as many people as possible, and hopefully find someone who knows who she is. What I know: The earliest picture I saw of her was when someone posted a google image of a dress she really liked. I believe this photo is from the 1949 spring summer Aldens catalog (one I do not yet have in my collection).  In 1950, she modeled f...
